Fired up in da 'Ville
M. Stewart
I saw the Surace campaign's advertisement in print edition of The Review today. What I find most interesting is that propaganda presented in the ad already has been thoroughly exposed on the Internet. By now, it's old news.
My understanding is that the ad has mobilized the fire department to come out strong for Dave Lloyd, just as the police have been on the streets supporting Joe Surace. So it has come to this: police vs. fire. It's a desperate gamble for Surace, because pretty much everyone knows the fire department wins that race hands down.
For the past several years, the Wellsville PD has been the center of high drama--virtually all of it negative, much of it downright embarrassing. We've seen that Mayor Surace would rather lose the election than give up what his high-priced attorneys said about the PD, and I've been told the FBI is currently investigating the department. As well, no one has forgotten about the Roberts murder debacle and the Ed Wilson charade.
There are good cops in Wellsville to be sure, but if I were running for mayor, I don't think I'd hitch my horse to their wagon--not now.
The fire department, on the other hand, has simply done its job. So if the Suracers think they can win this race by banging on the Wellsville fire community, they must be seeing something I don't.
How's about somebody tell us what's going on down in the 'Ville today.

Matt, I also saw the advertisement. I have to admit that I was embarrassed for Surace. It was SO unbelievably stupid that I laughed out loud. I was thinking (is that it? is that all you got?) And further more where are these houses that he so called cleaned up? Ill tell you what, if anyone wants to come to my neighborhood, Ill show you vacant home that has weeds growing higher than the roof and has stray cats living in it. Lets put a big fat picture of it in the Review!!
This election is so OVER. Where is the post election party?
I always thought firefighters were very odd. I mean, with the bumper stickers, window lettering, and lights on private vehicles. t-shirts and jackets that they wear to draw attention to themselves. they feel the need to blow their own horn. to me, they seem like they really enjoy attention more than anything else. They do stick together and hang out with each other almost exclusively- I think they are like an odd fraternity.
Surace really should fire his campaign manager. Who ever it may be has given very poor advise. I don't think you win elections in Wellsville by attacking a home town boy who fought fires. And to top it off they attacked the whole department, That's how you win? piss off more people. I think if I was Suarce I'd fire this consultant and speak for himself.
What I can say about today is that I found out that our fire dept. is MAD!! They cannot understand why Surace would attack the fire dept. in order to gain votes, especially when they have a levy up for renewal. Today I heard Surace be referred to as a selfish, desperate person who would do anything to retain the title of mayor.
Personally, I used to support the mayor but I have changed my mind after reading all of the stuff he and his supporters have had to say. It is obvious that he cares about nobody else but himself and those that support him are not the brightest bulbs in the box. Wake up, then grow up! You aren't running for prom king!!! We are talking about our kids' future!!!
How ironic is it that the FBI will come in and investigate the police department but won't come in and investigate the criminal investigations the police department has botched...didn't get to see the Review today but sounds interesting. What did the ad say?
To Bubba Sparx......
I personally do NOT work as a firefighter, but I DO work as a Paramedic. I do not have lights or sirens on my personal vehicle, I do not wear any of my EMS gear anywhere, nor do I have a county 9-1-1 pager, or even stickers for that matter. I do have a very close relationship with the people I work with along with other EMS, fire and police personnel. The main reason for that is that there is things out there that we are not able to talk to anyone else with, but we are able to talk about it with fire, ems or police personnel. You should do a ride along with a local EMS or fire department, you would MAYBE then understand what we go through, some of the things that we see, and how we have to deal with it. Our job is not 9 a to 5 p, it is a 24 hour job. One that I personally enjoy. SO if I choose to 'hangout' with my co-workers, and you percieve me as odd.......then my friend, YOU are the ODD one!
I was in Pittsburgh today and I took some picks of some artifacts and of the conflunence (the point where the 3 three rivers meet ) Low and behold I saw the Suracers there. Yep they were the artifacts and their campaign was floating down the confluence.
It is called pride, I and my friends are proud of what we do. There is a certain pride that comes with being on the fire department. You don't see to many people that work in the mill hanging out together, or the last of the pottery workers hanging out. Firefighters choose to do this the same way people choose to be in the coon hunters club, or the masons. So when you see those stickers on cars, or guys wearing a fire dept t shirt what you see is pride, not many people get to have the same pride as emergency workers do with their jobs or volunteer activities.
Wellsville now what says
Today Randy Allmon came knocking at my door asking for my vote. It's refreshing to see some old fashion campaigning being done by someone. He asked me if I had any questions about him or Wellsvile's future. His card he gave me said IT'S TIME FOR SOME NEW BLOOD,what an understatement that is. Good luck Mr Allmon. I hope your hard work pays off.
Id have to agree with bubba sparks. Most fire and police have hero complex's and have this weird need to draw attention to themselves and their "heroism" Not that theres anything wrong with that.
Surace is toast. He may as well write his bowin out speech.
Hey Bubba Sparx, I know some of these firemen and I think they do a pretty damn good job,at home and at work. They accept responsibility for there actions. Something the P.D. wont do. Just wait the backstabbing in the P.D. has only just started.Lets focus on the P.D. not the fire department .
For as long as I can remember the fire dept. has always gone on pride, They love their work and the people they work with, They race to the dept. not to be a hero, but they want to put out the fire to save a home or two and if need be save lives. In the eyes of many they are heroes. It isn't that they have a hero complex. They love what they do. It is their honor to serve and protect us.
I knew that their were some Suracers jumping ship. I have been told by quite a few people that they were pulling their support from Surace. People are tired of all the negative garbage coming from his camp. So far I think Lloyd has handled himself very well and always answered the attacks against him. Surace hasn't answered not one question. Does he think his so called accomplishments will carry him through the election? Just because he is the sitting Mayor doesn't mean he can claim all that has been done as his own. Give credit where credit is due. Tuesday night or Wednesday morning people will what their future in the village will hold. If Surace wins, I see more vacante homes. If Lloyd wins well we will have to wait and see.
Please people, pay no attention to Bubba Sparx. He's just jealous cause he dont have the same kind of brotherhood with Boss Hogg, Eddie Munster, Johnny Bravo....etc.
We have all seen over the last few years how the PD in Wellsville treat their fellow officers....it is soo pathetic to see how they stab each other in the back just to see who gets to lick Boss Hogg's boots first.
If I remember correctly the overwelming majority of blogers on this site was sure that Diane Dinch would be the next mayor of da ville if she would just run. Then low & behold she could not even get re-elected to council. So now all of yens have decided to pump up Dave Lloyd and fill his head with a bunch of crap and make him believe that he can win this election. Yall have shown that you do not reflect the true majority of da ville. I think all 10-15 of yens that post this crap on here reguarly, owe Lloyd an applogy for making him waist his money on a losing campiane. Surace Wins again!!!
To Agree and Bubba Sparx.......
Let me give you a few things to ponder, and you see if you could go home to your loved ones and talk about it......
There is a fire in a home that is occupied by a family of three, the parents and a child about 3 years of age. The parents get out safely. The child is however in bed asleep and unaware of what is happening. The home is unsafe or the fire was in a place that the parents could not get to the child, even through a window. The fireman's job is to go into that house and rescue that child. They make their way through the home and get within grasp of something that feels like a leg or an arm. Their chief tells them to get out that the house is coming down around them. They have to get out NOW! The child dies in the fire, and when recovery for the body was made, the fireman finds out that he was INCHES away from grabbing the arm or leg they felt earlier only to find out that it was actually a babydoll. In their mind, it was a child that they were searching for. Now do you honestly think that you can go home and talk to your other half about that?
Or how about you and your partner are called for a child that is in cardiac arrest. Just as you get there, you see a family memeber bringing down a lifeless, limp 4 year old little girl. You do everything in your power to save her life. When asking bystanders and family member what happened, they tell you that a dresser that is 5 foot tall and has clothes in it fell on her, meanwhile your looking around to see if the residence can tell you things also, you see NUMEROUS gallon bottles of liquor around the home that are empty. The child is pronounced dead at the emergency room and all you can think of after the call is....'Are my kids ok?' or how much you want to hurt these people for allowing this to happen to a sweet little child whose life has yet to really begin?
Do you honestly sit there and think to yourself that you can talk to your other half about these things. I know that there are a few people on here who are fireman and EMS personnel, and they probably feel the same way that I do. Think back to September 11, 2001........as much of a tragedy as that is, if it weren't for their co-workers, some of them may not have been able to talk about what they went through that day. It's like the people who were (are) in the military. My father was in WWII. I would ask him about some of the things he seen. He would not talk to me about it, even if I would ask for a history paper. Now we have personnel in Iraq. Do you honestly think that they want to talk about that to you???? No. They want someone who has been there, done that. That way, people like you would not think that someone like myself, or other fire, police, and EMS personnel were odd. Not even Military personnel.
You think about the sacrifices that are made by these people on a daily basis. There is ALWAYS a chance that these people may not come home to their loved ones. I know I tell my kids every day how much I love them just before I leave to go to work, because I know that there is a slight possibility that I may not come home.
As for the Fire Dept,,How can you attack the dept guys when they risk thier lives with such low pay for us everyday.. Do you even know how much a volunteer makes? PEANUTS..Isnt' it like $7.00 hr??THANKS TO EACH AND EVERYONE OF THEM ..THEY WERE THERE WHEN I HAD A FIRE..Down with the PD..
As a fireman, not in Wellsville but another local community, it offends me to hear that fireman have a "hero complex." I, and the other fireman that I work with, do not choose to respond because we want to be heros. We respond because we love what we do. We are like an extended family, we have our fights and our personality clashes and all of that comes with being in close quarters with each other. We also know that when we go out those doors on a call that we have each others backs no matter what disagreement we had the day before. That is why we hang out together. I dont live in Wellsville but I support Dave Lloyd and wish him the best of luck. I see Dave when I work at the ambulance with him and we have had many long talks about almost anything you can think of. I have never known Dave not to tell me the truth even when it was what I didnt want to hear. Good luck, Dave. I hope to hear that your the next mayor of Wellsville on wednesday morning.
you're right, Prince. it seems like every block has one vacant house, one surace sign and one lloyd sign. when this is all over, we all have to get along and live together. i think we have been making strides toward sprucing up the village in the last year and hopefully the pride will come back. it has been a rough last 25 years or so in the ville. there is one thing i am sure of, and that is that mayor surace truly cares about all the citizens he serves. if you ever decide to move back, you'd be welcome here.
Oh, come on, Prince Planet, people are going to sell their houses and move out of town just because Surace is the mayor? Sounds like the Alec Baldwins and Barbara Streisands who said they'd move to Canada if Bush won..and they're still living in Hollywood.
And what are you folks going to do if Surace wins? Whine around like the Gore people have been for the past 8 years and say Surace altered the voting booths?
You know after reading all these postings, all I can say is "DON'T DEFACE!! VOTE SURACE!!!
All you haters should be sent down to Cuba.
If your goddess Diane Dinch was so beloved, why didn't she pass the primary? Keep renting videos.
Damn right she lost. Did you see signs out? Nope.....Did she campaign hard...nope. Did you hear about the people who went around spewing their hatred about her and telling people she was a racist..yep. Kudos to those of you who worked so hard to get her out of there. Hard work surely pays off. I wonder who is next...probably Soldano cause he also says what he thinks. Atleast he dont ride on the coattails of others....like McMahon. Oh well, this crap is so old. Come Tuesday its all over....hopefully Lloyd is there...if not, well 4 more years of the same bullshit...firemen get nothing, Ed will surely be fired, and Marsha's next, the rest of them will keep playing DUkes of Hazzard....and Dolly will be VIllage Administrator for all her hard work!
Boy mayor you pissed off people from other towns on this one .What was the reasoning behind this. You definetly showed true colors on this matter.I wouldnt ever show my face in public again well I guess you havent in the Ville anyway. Please come out and play.
You are all idiots, the audit was about Dave Lloyd, It did not put down the firemen, it showed the mismanagement of the Fire Chief. Get a life. Learn to Read. Don't distort.
Personally I don't have nothing against Surace. I really do thing he a very nice guy who really does love his family, but as mayor he didn't have what to took to be just that. The people I have talked to have already stated that if Surace does win they will move because they do not want to waste their tax dollars on things that don't need to be spent on. They feel that thet were decieved and not getting their monies worth by continuing to live there. Wheneve you see lifelong residents ready to leave their home for years and years because they are frustrated with the village and the stupid things that goes on behind their backs, something must be wrong. And that wrong is village hall. I'm not saying that Lloyd will do better but at least he did let the people know what he plans to do.
We'll call the moving trucks and have them on standby.
Right....as long a Surace and his gang get their pockets lined, to hell with everyone else.
Hey princess planet, show me one river town in our area that dosent have the same issues we have. Do yourself a favor, move to a big city now. Pitts. Columbus, Youngstown. It's called population, that equals money, and in turn better way of life PERIOD
Hell, it is fact that the mayor even sent one of his committee members to a young ladies home and asked her if she had moved back to the ville. She had not changed her address on her license, which was not a village address. She in fact told them she had moved back and they offered her a change of address card and asked her if she would want a ride to the post office, so she could vote for Surace. NOW THAT'S DESPERATE if you ask me. Now why is it that you think the villiage officers want the mayor to remain?? They know or at least a few of them know they will be history, if he doesn't make it in. They won't be able to play XBOX on the computer anymore, no more computer Poker, Rulet, etc. No more pulling their friends over with open containers and God knows what else, letting them go and not the stranger he pulls over. OH YEH it goes on, don't be fooled. And if Loyd gets in there, I look for a lot of it to come to and end....
I'm not leaving, don't have to. This is where I live and going to live too. Whats wrong, am I getting under your skin because for some reason you don't like what I have to say. Doesn't matter.
Priness Planet? Is that all you got? Ha ha. You can't stop me, I'm PRINCE PLANET, Ha ha.
Prince planet- I know how you can be stopped....your kryptonite is soap and water, hahahaha. p.s.- get some for wifey too
Once again I am defending my actions for when I served as fire chief. My opponent or his supporters are determined to cloud this election with lies, innuendos and half truths. Instead of discussing the issues of the current administration, they continue to attempt to dig up dirt on me.
Apparently there is some concern as to why the equipment was not tested. When I submitted a budget request to the Council Finance Committee, I requested funding for the maintenance and testing of all equipment. The Finance Committee would meet and I would convey to them the fact that the testing was mandated by the State of Ohio and the liability for not testing the equipment was directly their responsibility. The budget was picked apart by the finance committee and many items were eliminated regardless what I had to say. I asked what if the truck broke down and I was told it may have to sit. My men were aware of this and we continued to operate, however there were some men that would not use certain equipment because of the lack of testing. We made the operation work however we could with what we had to work with.
I can remember one budget appropriation that they appropriated $200 for vehicle maintenance for the year. I am sorry I don’t remember the exact year, but it was after the Village voters passed a levy to purchase a new fire truck in 1996. That $200 was not even enough to cover the maintenance for the $200,000 truck that had just been purchased.
I don’t have any idea of the current fire department appropriation, but I doubt that there is adequate funding for testing and maintenance of vehicles and equipment.
In my last statement I said that if you have any questions to please email me or call me. I would like to suggest that again. I have given you the consideration of signing my name to my responses and I think it only fair that you give me the same.
Dave Lloyd
I am struck once again by the stark contrast between the Lloyd and Surace campaigns. Dave has participated in every candidate event; he has responded to spurious charges made by his opponent's people; he has made himself available for public and private discussions with voters.
In great contrast, Mayor Surace's handlers have succeeded in keeping their candidate hidden from the public; his press releases appear to have been written by someone other than the candidate; Surace has yet to address one single issue himself; he even refused to face the questions of Wellsville High School students, while his supporters got on the Internet and attacked the kids.
Joe's people have hidden the candidate behind the accomplishments of others rather than attempting to defend the long list of shenanigans and shady deals that have characterized his tenure as mayor. His cloaked, anonymous stand-ins have attacked Lloyd with propaganda that even they know isn't true.
Notice how often I have to say "Surace's people." That's because the candidate himself has been completely absent from his own campaign. For the past three months, we've seen no real evidence that Surace himself actually exists. So if this guy is just a symbol or figurehead, who's really running the mayor's office? It's pretty safe to say it isn't Joe. Who is it?
Lex Lever 2000,
you guys crack me up. you all act like I'm the enemy and I am not. All I am is just concern observer from the next town, just like Matt. You all stopped picking on matt so now you pick on me. Not my fault that YOUR man refuses to come out and answer the questions. He has no one to blame but himself if he loses this election. Personally I have no stake in this election, but you all that live in Wellsville do.
Also, what is this about the Suracer followers going from house to house asking questions about Italians, African American, how they are going to vote and the racial impact of the Eddie Wilson saga. What does that have to with the election? Why in the world would some one start something racial, especially this late in the election. If you don't believe me go to ole' nibs site and read it. I did and really think that it doesn't belong in this election. The village is already divided, want it slpit three ways? Again, uncalled for. I may have misunderstood it but don't think so. Correct me if I am wrong.
I am guessing that Joe Scarabino is still running the Mayors Office. When Surace took office, he told several officers that now he had a mayor that he could get "under his thumb" and control. Is he worried now? Hell yea! He knows he wont be able to do that when Lloyd takes over. Lloyd is wise to his game! Its time for the Joes to pack up and move on. ED WILSON FOR CHIEF!!!!!!!!
[QUOTE: She in fact told them she had moved back and they offered her a change of address card and asked her if she would want a ride to the post office, so she could vote for ]
This is an old campaign tactic, offering to drive voters to the polls and it was used often during the Lombardozzi administration so perhaps Nunzio IS Mayor Surace's campaign manager.
As for the "eddie for chief" statement: I like and respect Eddie very much but think Marsha would be the better chief.
And to the idiot who blasted firefighters, etc: Pray to God your house never burns and there are no firemen available.
Do you realize that volunteer firemen do this for NOTHING...would you? Doubtful.
When our NEW mayor takes office I see the chief retiring..Should have long ago...
I am not a citizen of wellsville but i can tell you one thing after reading the comments on this website the people of wellsville have only one choice for mayor who is DAVE LLOYD.
Good luck to both Lloyd and Surace and all who is running for office in Wellsville.
Here's an idea; if Lloyd wins, or better yet, WHEN Lloyd wins, Prince and wifey both get a bath.
I hear that the Wellsville Police were on State Rt. 39 spotlighting deer. Looks like they learned from there Chief how to patrol the Ville. Don't get me wrong there are good cops in Wellsville just not manny hired after 2000. Too bad Dave Long retired, this shit would not be going on if Dave was there.
I have an idea, if you want to get on here and express your thoughts, make sure your intelligent enough to spell and make a logical SENTENCE. I agree with the Bubba Sparx comment about the "super hero" firefighters and it is a shame they "volunteer" their time to sit in the fire department and think of ways to stir up trouble in the police department. Don't you have anything better to do than sit around and bash THE MAYOR Joe Surace and deface the signs? Oh, wait normally that is what losers do when they are mad.
To bubba sparx: most real police, firefighters and Emt's are odd. We work a job that few not in the public safty occupation would understand. We don't always save the life or solve the crime although we try our hardest. We take it on the chin from bystandards who say things like they could have got to him, even though the house is full of fire. We spend countless hours trying to solve a crime with little to go on or attorneys that block our every move. We do cpr for an hour even though we know that person is dead just to hear family members say why didn't they use the paddles. Most of us have trouble associating with people outside our professions. We tend to isolate ourselves from the rest of the world doing things that would make most people wet the bed.
I am curious about this person "Diane Dinch". Is she the "Miss" mis-information constantly running around town trying to stir up trouble in the police department? I thought so. Why don't you do the people of Wellsville a favor; get a job, a hobby or a life of some sort and keep your nose out of the police departments business and stick to something your good at, like tanning.
Not all police support Surace, not even as many as you think.
Curious would like to know why did the fire department have to make this "police" vs. "fire"? Years ago I recall you all used to get along well and now the fire department has this way of stirring up trouble in the police department. Seriously, maybe the fire department would be better off if they would just do their job; ANSWER THE PHONE AND FIGHT FIRES.
Lex Lever2000
With the job I do and she does we both get showers and baths everyday. What I am wondering is why are you with the soap name? LOL Doesn't matter to me who wins because I can't vote down there. But if I were allow to vote it would be for Lloyd because he knows how to answer questions. But like I said before good luck to both.
fresh off the press as of 2pm dave lloyd is winning big time
i no one thing scarbino is not racist.
