Here we are, the day before the big election. I've said pretty much everything I have to say, and I'll certainly understand if everyone else shares my weariness.
But just in case you have more to say, today is an ORL open forum on the election. Say anything you want in these final hours.

Dave Lloyd for Mayor, Vote for a positive change. Vote to be proud again of our town. Vote to end the corruption from within. Vote for someone who can handle personnel issues without asking for outside help that cost thousands. Vote for someone who is honest that wouldn't lie to the people or press.
Matt,
I have read YOUR opinion about the MR/DD tax levy and I have to write to set the record straight. Why didn't you check to see if Jeff Diddle was correct when he posted his message about the MR/DD budget. Jeff wrote that the 6 million dollars was not a surplus, but our budget. The money is NOT a surplus, but a carryover of funds and it enables the MR/DD superintendent and the board to pay bills for the rest of this year and for the first quarter of next year. If you would have checked into this information, then you would realize that Mr. Diddle was correct, but instead, you ignore the facts and print whatever you desire. My only hope is that voters of Columbiana County will look into the facts rather than just follow your blog blindly. I hope there is a huge voter turnout tomorrow, and the citizens of Columbiana County vote with the knowledge of facts rather than rely on rumor or someone else's opinion. I urge all voters to call the MR/DD administration building to talk with Mr. Devon or myself about any concerns you may have about the budget or any questions you may have about the Columbiana County Board of MR/DD.

p.s. to answer another message on your blog- the Board at the MR/DD is a volunteer board and no benefits are paid to them. If you would like to know more, call Mr. Devon.
I would like to ask you a question Matt. Since you around the time Dave was the cheif,do you think he took every advantage to increase his pension by overtime etc.
The mayor, counsel and the clerk let everything just happen in all departments no one took any responsibility.
They fiddled while Rome was burning...
Will Dave have the guts to do the right thing when it comes to all village departments?
I cannot say how Dave Lloyd or anyone else at village hall managed their own hours on the job. Unless there was serious abuse, that's not something I would have heard about. Had there been problems with Lloyd and OT, I'm sure it would have been part of the public discussion in council. To my knowledge, that never happened.
Enough of overtaxing the Middle-class people. No more Levey's for the homeowner to pick up . Times are hard these days. People are losing their homes left and right. I want to know how much money they make a year. I for one am scared about the future here in this area. Whether all the money I put into my home will be worth it. Will my children leave here when they graduate college because there are no jobs? I'm voting absolutely NO!!
I would like to wish Councilman Tony Cataldo and Councilman Joe Soldano the best of luck in the election. I think they are the best of the bunch for Council.
Matt, I'm not a Wellsville voter but I am like you in having an interest in what happens down there. I have been reading this site and the Old Nib site too and I have to say that Surace fans sound like a nasty bunch of people. Is Surace trying to appeal to the lower uneducated classes? I know that sounds high handed but based upon the comments it seems like his fans are somewhat challenged. You know Wellsville better than me, are these his base support?
F.C.--
I don't think it's an issue of class. It's more about power and control. There are people who stand to gain by keeping Surace in office, and I think they make up his base. That's the only thing I can think of as to why anyone would support the mayor for a second term, especially given his astonishing record of poor leadership.
Trust me, the comments you see on the Internet left by Surace supporters are just the tip of the iceberg. The threats, the intimidation, the ugly, mindless attacks--this is evidence of severe frustration.
I don't think Joe will win on Tuesday, but if by chance the Surace campaign's ruthless tactics turn out to be successful, I think Wellsville will become an isolated lost cause. Certainly honest people will not do business there, and the good people left in the village will lose all hope that their town can be reclaimed.
I hope Lloyd supporters are able to put observers at all precincts on Tuesday. Desperate people do desperate things. Let's put it this way: I've seen some extremely shaky things happen at the village hall on election day.
Hey Matt, have you ever saw the movie Black Sheep with Chris Farley? Just wondering because didn't the incumbent mayor try to pull that stunt with having the deceased "vote". Thats in a way funny yet ironic because from some of the rumors about Mayor Surace's supporters asking out of town residents to change addresses for the election, and the plot of that movie bear similarity!
Can someone please give me the main objective of Robert Bycroft. I just want to know what they are asking for, what are there plans for this money, and why is this year so important that it is such a popular subject? I just want to know how to vote on this after I hear all of the facts. The newspaper articles still do not make this clear to me!
la donna--
You can read the comments left by Mr. Diddle and others from MRDD who (obviously) support the levy. It may come down to whether you believe them and Mr. Devon.

Good Luck Mr. Soldano.
Good Luck to you, Dave Lloyd! We are rooting for you! We need a change in Wellsville and it begins with you!!!! I hope the next time I see you I can yell, hey there "Mr. Mayor"!!!!! And to Toni I can say..."hey First LAdy"..... positive thoughts Dave!
Allmon, You are not the best, you are the worst. We know your history in this town, hell no, we won't vote for you. 17TH STREET, RING A BELL.
Good luck Dave! You and yours have run a clean campaign and it has reflected positively on you. You were not ducking anybody and you are the only one for the job! Best of luck tomorrow!
As far as MRDD Levy is concerned, if there was money to carry over, that is not budget, but an over collection of what was needed. We just approved a renewal last election. It's interesting that mostly the ones speaking for this levy are employees with something to gain from it like Mr. Kline. This isn't the only levy on the ballot. Some taxpayers will see their tax bills increase over $200 is all of the requested levys pass. This election is not one to over tax the public. I encourage everyone that DOES NOT WANT MORE TAXES to go with your coming $4.00 gal gasoline to get out tomorrow and VOTE AGAINST THESE LEVYS. If you don't, a minority of people wanting to pay more taxes will be out to make sure that you have more taxes on your plate to pay. We still have a lot of surprises yet to come dealing with our failing economy that the current administration does not want you to know. NO MORE TAXES till after the presidential election. If you want more taxes, then don't do anything. If you can't afford new taxes to go with your gasoline and winter fuel costs then get out and vote NO MORE LEVYS.
Just an interesting tidbit I learned last night on a news channel that I don't believe a lot of people are aware of. Did you know this administration is paying 9 Billion dollars a month in Iraq to supply every man, woman and child in IRAQ health and medical treatment. That's 9 billion a month. And our administration vetoed a request for only 32 billion for the year to cover our poor here in AMERICA. What is wrong with this picture?
Mr. Kline,
Are you the Public Relations person that was hired by the MRDD board or was it someone else? What does that PR job pay a year? Why aren't your board meetings reported in the paper? How much money is invested in bonds and such? Sorry I always support kids and education, but I think more accountability needs to be done first.
I have lived in the downtown area, Lincoln Ave. my whole life. I remember the incident at 17th St. too Allmon, naw, no vote from me. Grow up boy, and come back when you are older.
McMahon, you are horrible. You are the biggest yes man, Puppet, that there has been in 30 years at Village Hall. Wellsville Folks are too smart for your sorry case.
In response to “Get out and vote No”, You still don’t seem to understand how the MRDD budget works. The MRDD money that is in hand right now must last until April. Should I assume that if you have $600.00 in your checking account right now that it is surplus? Or maybe you still have bills to pay out of that $600.00 until your next paycheck comes in. Usually, by that time (if you’re like most of us) the balance is used up. It would be irresponsible for the MRDD board to be holding a SURPLUS of six million dollars and be asking the voters to give more. All of the financial records of the County Board of MRDD are open to the public. Please understand that this is not surplus, this is our budgeted money that must last until the next tax collection in April. When we refer to budgeted money, that means it must be there to continue our operation. If you vote “No” because you think your taxes are too high, I understand. If you vote “No” because you think that the children should go back to their own school district, I understand. If you vote “No” because you just really don’t care about our program, I’m even OK with that. However, if you vote “No” because you believe we have six million dollars of excess, surplus money, then you’re just simply uninformed and unwilling to look at the facts. Please look at the facts and support the Robert Bycroft School with a “Yes” vote on Tuesday.
To "What's Wrong with this Picture"-That fact was reported years ago in the national newspapers, the mainstream media is just starting to pick it up. You have to read the newspapers man.
j diddle - don't you also work for mrdd? Are the board members paid? What other benefits do they receive? There are always ways to cut back like the school system and find resources within your existing budget.
What happened on 17th Street?
So we should be arming ourselves with guns, right Matt? I'm taking your advise, and I'm shootin someone. Thanks for the heads-up, I didnt realize we lived in Iraq. I'm sure the good business people appreciate your response too.
I, too, would like to know what this 17th Street deal is about.
As for this country giving money to Iraq for insurance, rebuilding (I heard $32 billion for that alone), etc. it SUCKS.
More and more of our jobs are being taken overseas; we can't afford gasoline or health care and we work every single day.
Something better be done pretty soon or there will be another Depression in this country.
It's no wonder the drug dealers are so prevalent; they are the only ones making any money.
I remember something went down at a gas station on 17th St. Allmon knows, maybe he will tell you about it, but I doubt it.
with gasoline at $3.08 a gallon i can barely afford to drive to work. so i say not only no to any new levy or tax, but a big, fat hell no. and you wonder why there are so many homes in columbiana county with those little orange stickers in the window.
does the words UP YOUR SLEEVE ring a bell? Allegedly RED BULL energy drink...??
While the election debate rages in Wellsville, every resident there needs to take a minute to think of the Thrasher family in its loss of Phyllis.
She was always a wonderful citizen for Wellsville.
ONE VOTE FOR LLOYD. See ya Surace. In the words of Terrell Owens, "GET YOUR POPCORN!!!"
I was deeply saddened by the news of Phyllis Thrasher's death. Phyllis was a friend that I always enjoyed seeing, and her passing will be felt by all those who knew her. My deepest sympathies to her family.
up your sleeve...
I thought the whole thing with Allmon took place twenty some years ago? Where does Red Bull come into play? HAHA
VOTE FOR TONY CATALDO FOR COUNCILMAN!!!! GOOD LUCK, TONY!!!! YOU'VE GOT OUR VOTES!!!!
Hey, Tony's Sisters, he don't have my vote.
Matt I didn't sget to read what you wrote that was so bad, why not put it here. You know the admin.
vote for hillary
dave lloyd is way ahead in votes as of 2 pm little inside info
I now hear that Surace has taken a commanding lead. Farewell Diane, have a great retirement. Back to expired vote registration Chief Lloyd.
No one knows who's ahead. Unless things have changed since I was reporting the news, the Elections Board doesn't release any information until the polls close. Everyone can just relax for a while. My guess is that preliminary returns will start coming out about 8:00 or 8:30.
Once the election is over lets talk about the royal screw job the American consumer is already getting with the price of oil reaching $97.00 per barrel today. And there isn't even any "physical" reason ; no refineries offline , no terrorist attacks on pipelines ; just the good ole boys on Wall Street driving up the price and sticking it to the average Joe.
Gotta love the American way.
Can you say recount.
wow! according to the news there only a couple votes difference between lloyd and surace. does that close of a race constitute an automatic recount? any idea matt? its surace by seven i think but i bet if you take away the last minute change of address votes dave got him!
High gas prices? Basing prices on "futures" instead of reality? It's probably all part of the "New World Order" that politicians have been pushing for as I recall referenced in Pat Robertsons book of approx. two decades ago entitled "The Late Great Planet Earth". The goal to locate the world government in Europe. To accomplish this they have to collapse the American Economy. The Euro and globalization seem to be all part of this. Look at the value of the dollar. Looks like they are on the way to success. We never had prices like this until after Cheney's Energy Conference that all media was kept out of. I think the book even noted the implant of microchips that have been in the news recently under the guise of medical records.
Congrats Mayor Surace from the people up on "the hill", Russell Heights. One question, is the fire department going to put the flood wall up? Just curious with all the tears the fire department is probably shedding right about now.
It is not over yet. We will talk in ten days............
WOW I CANT BELIEVE DEAD PEOPLE CAN VOTE ..UNBELIEVEABLE ONLY IN WELLSVILLE .... HOPEFULLY THEY REALLY LOOK INTO THIS ,,, OH WELL WHEN THE TOWN IS GONE DONT BLAME US
We can say recount; sorry it won't help ya, we WIN! Good Job Mayor Surace from the ones unable to vote up on the hill!
TO ANNONAMOUS. WHAT EXACTLY DID YOU WIN? IS THE AIR THINNER UP THERE? CAN SOMEONE,ANYONE,EVEN THE MAYOR TELL ME, WHAT WE, AS A WHOLE TOWN OR VILLAGE, HAS WON? Thats the whole problem with the Surace Idiots. No one and I mean No one has given us any hope for the future. So congratulations on YOUR winnings and we will be delivering your Big Fat Pink Elephant soon... What a moron!
Hopefully when they put up the floodwall...you and your "heights" cronies will be on the other side.
Imagined the curly-haired, mole rat trying to swim for his life.
What a joy that thought brings me!
To the pitch:
Losing sucks, huh? We wouldn't know! From your friends up on "the hill".
Don't put all of us on the hill in the same category with your sorry ass.
