Thinking about "Fitna"

by M. Stewart
I watched Fitna this morning, the new film about radical Islam by right-wing Dutch legislator Geert Wilders. While it’s not high art, the film makes very clear that Western democracies, Christians and Jews remain in the crosshairs of people who believe Allah has called them to kill.

If you want to see the 10-minute subtitled version of Fitna at YouTube, you’ll have to register for an account, which is very easy to do. The good bots at YouTube want to know you’re not a child; the film shows one of those al-Qaeda beheadings and some other pretty graphic violence.

According to the L.A. Times, “Wilders has said he made the film to call attention to what he sees as the Islamic threat to Europe -- which he compares to the fascism that led to World War II. ... [He has] built a political career fighting what he calls the ‘Islamization’ of the West.'”

I can’t say there is anything new in Fitna, except perhaps that the conclusion calls upon Muslims to “tear out” the parts of the Koran that tell believers to kill infidels. Much of the film shows these selected verses while Islamic leaders preach hatred and murder.

The way I see it, anytime you have a group of insane people who believe some imaginary god is telling them to kill non-believers, there is a problem, whether that god is Allah or Yahweh.

Let’s not kid ourselves, Christians are not above killing infidels for Jesus (see the Crusades), but for the most part, Christians have outgrown at least some of their medieval mindset, and the real crazies are generally kept underground. Islam has been less successful at controlling its radicals.

How successful this little film is in whipping up anti-Muslim sentiment in Europe is yet to be seen, but Fitna offers nothing new to Americans, who have been at war with radical Islam for five years. We have enough fear and hatred here to last us a while.

It is possible, however, that the stir over this film could cast more doubt on American Democratic presidential candidate Barak Obama, whose endorsements from the Nation of Islam and the Rev. Jeremiah “god-damn-America” Wright have raised questions about Obama’s influences and allegiances.

We must always remember that an American presidential election has nothing to do with thinking people making informed decisions. It’s about propaganda and fear, and right now the fear factor rides pretty high.

If Barak Obama does win the Democratic nomination, and it appears he will, the Democrats will essentially forfeit the White House for another four to eight years. As enthusiastic as Obama’s liberal supporters are, America at large will not support this man. If at any time during the campaign the far right believes Obama has a real chance of winning the presidency, his life will be in danger.

We must understand that the forces shaping the world today are not rational. We have entered a period of tremendous instability brought on by people driven mad by religion, and the resulting fear will affect all our lives for the indefinite future. Because human progress and religion are incompatible, the real war is not between Christians and Muslims or Arabs and Jews; it’s between the past and the future.

You're forgetting this, MATT........ "history is not
inevitable..each chapter is often made from millions of decisions by ordinary people..all define the shape of history yet to come." Keith Olbermann on the passing of his polical science teacher.

Get off the "u tube", and start doing something except spreading FUD. Get involved in something
more constructive.

Who are you now?? I just reread this and caught the part about the "far right" Goodbye, Farewell, This blog is off my list. Forever.

Seems that Mr "FUD" has his head in the sand...or he is a member of CAIR.
As I posted before and will post again, the threat of Islamofascism is real, folks! Al Qaeda has sworn to make 9/11 look small compared to future attacks!
Here is the ACT for America website again, an organization started by Brigitte Gabriel (read her bio by clicking the "About Us" tab). The movie Matt refers to is also viewable on this site:

Of all the great writers, or newscasters for that matter, somone is quoting Keith Olberman. History is dead as I know it...RIP. American intelligence is indeed a thing of the past. The only thing worse is someone quoting Rush Limbaugh, which I believe someone did a few ago. Doesn't anyone read anymore? Critical reading...there's a class for you Matt, something that died with nonfiction and the conservative movement. Critical reading...what a misnomer. The only thing worse than all this is you flaming the fires. Shame on you. You are feeding on your own ignorance.

To FUD and whatever--
Thank you both for coming here to announce your intellectual and critical superiority. Of course, you wrote nothing to address the issue at hand, but I suspect that's because you were too busy reading and thinking.

I would suggest you might want to read up a bit on the Christian
Reconstructionists, also known as Rushdooney Reconstructionists, Reconstructionists or sometimes postmillennial.

There was a time they were laughed at, but not many are laughing anymore. More and more of them are ending up in places of power and influence and it is becoming harder and harder to tell which are and which aren't of that persuasion anymore.

Also which used to be of that ilk, but now claim not to be, but might still be.

There's a rather large group of Christians in the United States who
advocate a return to "biblical law," and that includes all the
stoning's and executions for petty crimes stated in the OT. They're
called "Christian Reconstructionists." Google "Rousas John Rushdoony
Christian Reconstructionists Chalcedon Society" and read all about
it. Their stated, public aim is to take over the U.S. government and
flush the constitution, substituting old testament law.
*************************************************************

The sad part is they are appearing in larger numbers in govt and other places of power and influence

Will they ever achieve their goals. Probably not, though there are things happening now that I would never have imagined could happen in church state areas 10 years ago.

However, they can quote possibly create some havoc that could take some time to undo.

Sounds as if buckeyeelo is trying to compare and justify the existence of radical Islam...perhaps we ought to give him a chance to experience it. Perhaps a nice little vacation to Iran to sit and sing Kumbaya with the Mullahs...take along his wife too, and let her dress like a lady in a dress and heels...just make sure there aren't too many stones lying around handy!
Hmmm...I haven't seen any Christians flying airplanes into buildings lately, have you?

I didn't realize you were a mind reader, But hey, don't give up your day job because you are totally inept at the mind reading business.

I did not mention Islam in any form or fashion directly or indirectly. I didn't bring that dog to this fight, that is on you

What I did say is factual, you can look it up yourself and/or I can fully document my comments if you have any questions.

If you feel compelled to comment I would suggest you might try understanding what someone really is saying and not what you are trying to make them say. I would also recommend you might want to do your homework before you go out and stick your foot in your mouth.

Stay out of the mind reading business, you really are lousy at it

Have a nice day

I've been all over the U.S. and read news from many sources each day...I have yet to hear of any Christians stoning anyone.

I have, however noted that it is mostly Christians that work to return us and our nation to traditional values of God, family, country (that's why I love the TV show Mayberry RFD...we HAD those values back then).

Christians (and a few other denominations such as Mormons) would like to see prayer back in the schools (oh my!, we can't have prayer can we...a foundation such as prayer may eventually eliminate drugs, sagging pants, piercings, tatoos, promiscuous sexual activity and shootings!).

Christians also advocate that students be required to stand, place their hand over their hearts and recite the Pledge of Allegiance in honor of our country and forefathers who fought to give them the very freedom to go to school in the first place.

Visit a Christian school sometime...there is a stark difference in the quality of student (and citizen) you will find there compared to public schools.

No, I have not seen or heard of Christians stoning, but I have heard of stoning (and beheading of) Christians. And I also remember that day in September of the year 2001...as well as virtually every other terrorist attack in the world in the past 20 to 30 years...perpetrated by young Muslim men between the ages of 14 and 40.

Funny, all I saw when my kids were in Catholic school were a bunch of rich, isolationist brats who could afford the better drugs than the kids in the public schools. My kids are MUCH better off in public school than they were there with those hypocrites.

And what are the Muslim kids to do while all this praying is going on? Or the Jewish kids? Or the Jehovah's Witnesses? Or the kids with agnostic parents? Isn't this America? Doesn't everyone have the right to believe, or NOT to believe?

no bible tumpers - Yes, you do. It's just according to most on here it's you have the right to believe in Jesus and all that entails and the obligation to not believe in anything else that could even slightly contradict the former. Because, damnit, we need more people like those of the Westboro Baptist Church of Kansas. Patriots that love "God, family and country" and demonstrate it by protesting military funerals because they believe God is repaying this country for its "tolerance" of homosexuality by killing our soldiers in Iraq. Don't bother to try and wrap your head around how those two things are even remotely related - its what God wants, man. Forget those grieving mothers and fathers. There's a man out there somewhere, right now probally, partaking in some sort of homosexual activity. That's what's important. Oh, and saying the pledge of allegiance everyday with your hand over your heart - can't forget that.

Progress, smogress - lets take it back to puritanical times when men entered into marriage contracts with adolescent girls who were punished if they did not fullfill their "duties," people were stoned to death for minor offenses and any women deemed a tad bit different was liable to be prosectued for being a witch.

Just a question for all you xenophobic "good christians": Do you know who the most quoted prophet in the Quaran is?

elonative - Opie was a giant douche

DE,
Westboro Baptist is an abberation...unlike radical Islam, which is the norm..."The Religion of Perpetual Outrage" as Michelle Malkin calls 'em...LOL.

Muslims who DISAVOW "striking off the heads of the infidels" are in the minority, thus the call to remove those pages of the Koran by a small number of more moderate Muslims.

Have you ever heard CAIR (Council of American-Islamic Relations) condemn 9/11 or any other terror attack against the west?

Oh, and no "xenophobia" here, just good 'ol American eternal vigilance. Never goes outa style.

BTW, At least "Opie" didn't have his pants hanging down around his ass...saying "Dude...."

Anonymous DE said...

Sorry, DUDE, but radical Islam is far from the norm. Growing, yes. Norm, no. When your takings your talking from Michelle Malkin and Bill O'Riley your out of ideas.

CAIR condeming terrorist attacks: CAIR coordinated the release of a fatwa (religious pronouncement) that stated in part, “Islam strictly condemns religious extremism and the use of violence against innocent lives. There is no justification in Islam for extremism or terrorism. Targeting civilians' life and property through suicide bombings or any other method of attack is haram or forbidden - and those who commit these barbaric acts are criminals, not martyrs.”

No I think xenophia more aptly descibes your disposition.

By the way, Jesus is the most quoted prophet in the Quran.

If Opie was real by this point he would have his pants down around his ankles, doing something that would make the Westboro Baptist Church very unhappy.

Yeah, I think DE is either:
A) A member of a terrorist cell trying to brainwash us into a sort of "kumbaya" pacifism...soften us up, so to speak. Maybe DE stands for "Darkandswarthy Eastliverpudlian." LOL.
B) A terrorist apologist who thinks that it is all our fault that we were attacked on 9/11...maybe perhaps because we "support Israel." He probably thinks it's "all Bush's fault" too. *snicker*
C) A liberal college professor who is also B above (sorry Matt, but at least you don't seem as liberal as THAT guy! :-))
