Debates and arson
by M. Stewart
I know you’re all expecting a comment on Thursday night’s vice-presidential debate, but I don’t have much to say. I watched only part of the debate because I found it difficult to watch Sarah Palin pretend to understand what she was saying.
The very idea that this woman could end up serving as the president of the United States creeps me out. Certainly Palin performed better last night than
everyone expected after the disastrous interviews with Katie Couric, but let’s face it, there was no way to go but up.
Let me put it this way: If Palin were running for county commissioner, I’d say she did pretty well. But she’s not running for county commissioner.
Those of you who are interested in facts can check out this analysis of the debate from FactCheck.org.
According to the Morning Journal, a 28-year-old Lincoln Avenue man, John Williams, has been charged with arson after he admitted to setting fire to a house on Dresden Avenue. Apparently Williams isn’t taking credit for other recent fires in town, but one can’t help but wonder if his “work” has extended to the countryside. Or is there a country cousin?

One thing I noticed , when Biden got chocked up talking about the fatal car accident invloving his wife and 18 month old daughter; not knowing if his son's would survive , and the struggle of raising two children as a single parent , Palin kept that same pasted on smile she had during the entire debate. It would have been nice to have seen her show some real emotion .
I would like to debate if it was arson. I don't think it was. I think it was mice with matches. (sarcasim)
Matt just hates Sarah Palin because she's a Christian. That's no surprise to most people he hates all Christians. He believes his lack of spiritual understanding makes him better than they are. In all fairness though he still has time to change.
Voice--
I don't "hate" Christians, and my disdain for Sarah Palin has very little to do with her Christianity. However, I do question the sanity of someone who would let an African witch doctor cast a spell to protect her from evil spirits on camera in her church. But that has nothing to do with Christians, only crazy people who happen to be Christians.
And you don't hate Christians? Had me fooled.
Matt,
Love reading your blog. I am a Centrist Republican, still unsure what I will do behind the curtain. Do not like the Palin choice, but come on, if Geraldine Ferraro can say she did well, and she did. You could even begrudgingly give her some credit for last night. She held her own and did what she was supposed to do. Protect McCain, challange Obama, and not look silly doing it.
Funny though as I perused the networks....MSNBC and Olberman had it 66% Biden, CNN had 51% Biden, and Fox News had it 80% Palin. It is no wonder that most of the country doesn't know exactly what to do. Even the informed have a tough time sifting through what is real, and what is commentary by the networks.
loved the debate. It was like Green Acres meets The West Wing. If Homer Simpson's dad and Sarah Palin loose this election, I predict that they will blame it on witchcraft. Thats right, there are many witches out there f...... up all the elections.
I watched the debate.
Palin won hands down.
Biden conveniently forgot all that he said about his running mate when Obama and other democratic hopefuls were running in the primarys.
Good to see Slick Willy campaigning for Obama. Would be better if Hillary was doing the same.
M,
I went back and looked at what you call a witch doctor. Your evaluation of the situation is ridiculous. The pastor is no more a witch doctor than you are. I saw nothing wrong with what was going on. If I were you I would be very cautious about who and what you make fun of. Your perceived cleverness will backfire one of these days. Some day you might ask a Christian for help and you'll get it even though you hate them. The word "fool" comes to mind to describe you.
Yes, I'm the kind of fool who lets self-righteous religious nuts come to his house and call him a fool. You're welcome.
Palin mopped the floor with him.
Speaking of "witch doctors" did you forget Obama's mentor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright? Or how about his buddy, the terrorist William Ayers?
Or how about this article,as I digress to our current mess:
http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/pittsburghtrib/news/mostread/s_590330.html
My God, connect the dots! Do you REALLY want this guy as our next prez?
FactCheck.org is run by the Annenberg Foundation, a long time supporter of Obama. Obama served on an Annenbrg board with Bill Ayers doling out Annenberg millions to leftist educational groups. I doubt FactCheck.org is not biased towards Obama.
I tried to post a comment the other day about Jeremiah Wright, on my end it said the message was successful, once it was approved. However, it never got posted. My post basically said the same thing Voice of Reason said. M, for some reason you think it’s ok for these candidates to use the religion card to win, but yet the people with a religion are not allowed to talk about it. Doesn’t this election effect Christians just like anybody else? To me it seems that it would go against the first amendment, by telling pastors and preachers not to talk politics or what candidate to vote for. Voice, also made a good point about the witch doctor thing, Jeremiah Wright hates white people and America because of white people. But yet because you don't like Palin you call her beliefs witchcraft. This is a pretty common practice in Christian churches. For a man who claims to know the Bible, you sure missed some important parts of it.
ELO in Wash
At least you can only accuse people of whom Obama has been "friends" with.
Mc Cain cheated on his first wife, was investigated and involved in a corrupt Republican Bank Deregulation Scam, the banker went to jail., his wife was hooked on drugs she was getting illegally from a doctor, he went to jail. Oh yeah, great candidate. Maybe they all think this way out there in Wash. but as for me, I'm tired of the crooks. The program tonight was very eye opening. They could only fault Obama's friends. I don't think having questionable friends is against the law yet.
I can't believe you people took Sarah Palin's folksy, snotty comments, her word out to the third graders, the "say it ain't so, Joe" as any kind of substantive debate that took any kind of skill whatsover. She reminded me of a cheerleader put out front for a pep rally. She demonstrated that she knows nothing about foreign policy, nothing about the economy and nothing about even the role she would be expected to take as a vice president. Its sad to see that you folks take her loud, run on sentences, her giggling and posturing and her flaunting that she's "not a politician" as anything of substance and that you think she won the debate. How do you figure? Just because she kept on talking and she was louder?
And elonative, if you take the trib's word as the final word on anything political, you must watch a lot of fox news. I knew a guy who worked at the Trib while Clinton was in office, and there was a standing edict NEVER to use him on the front page of the paper. That's the Republican slant that paper takes.
I can't believe there are people out there that think Palin won this debate. Apparently they were drinkng or watching some other program. The woman could not even stay on subject and was reading from a prepared statement and kept refering to enviromental issues. If she is so blinded by the many other issues that are plaguing this country then she needs to sit in the sun in Florida and un-thaw her brain for a while apparently the Alaskan cold has given her brain frost bite. To be honest I do not like any of the candidates that are running for president but this country can not survive four more years of republican leadership unless we want to leave ourself open for a foreign economic take over.
I am not in either party so am not in either camp.
I'm also not a political person, barely watch anything concerning politics on TV but did watch the debate.
If I could, I would vote for Biden for president from among the four candidates. He came across as knowledgeable and sincere.
I have to agree with the other comment on here: "She reminded me of a cheerleader put out front for a pep rally...loud, run on sentences, her giggling and posturing and her flaunting that she's "not a politician" as anything of substance"
That's exactly the same thing I was thnking while watching her. I really wanted to see a woman candidate who was savvy and sharp but instead I saw, well, a soccer mom trying to run with the big dogs and failing miserably.
I'm not sure I think Obama is the right man for president, although I've liked some of what I've heard him say. I do agree it seems he doesn't have a lot of experience.
I liked Palin's stance on a few things, such as using our own resources to eliminate our dependency on foreign oil, etc.
McCain: I just don't see him being any different than Bush and I truly believe Bush has allowed our country to go to the dogs.
Of all of them, Biden gave me the clearest feeling of someone with common sense; he comes from a coal mining town in Pennsylvania so might actually be able to empathize with Ohioans, and he had me when he broke down talking about his sons...that seemed sincere to me and made him seem so much more human than the others.
Too bad he can't be president and Obama v.p.
It's difficult to believe there are so many politically inept people out there. I guess there are more people who can be fooled into thinking Obama is their savior than anyone ever expected. This nation truely is finished when lies and deception are substituted for truth and honesty.
If Obama becomes the president your not going to like the next four years.
Fight the good fight: I sure as hell haven't liked the last eight, either.
I don't know ONE SINGLE PERSON who is doing well in this area. Everyone I know is living pay check to pay check, struggling to keep his head above water and working every day as things get worse and worse.
Can it be any worse under Obama? I think not.
And I may be politically inept, but I generally can tell the difference between someone who knows what he's talking about and someone who is reading from notes or repeating what she has been coached to say.
And, for my money, Biden was more prepared than Palin. And Obama at least isn't a clone of George Bush, who has run this country into the ground (as well as getting thousands of our kids killed in Iraq for nothing).
Matt you should be use to politicians who don't know what they are talking about after all Columbiana county is full of them!!! You should have watched you might have learned something!!
To all of those who are telling us how wonderful Sarah Palin and John McCain are:
You are the same people who for years have been telling us on this site how wonderful George Bush is. Put bluntly, you have a serious credibility problem.
Everybody knows who John McCain is, so I won't address that any further. However, it is obvious to anyone who hasn't willing blinded themselves to reality that Sarah Palin is a garden-variety idiot who was selected simply because she is pretty. If there is a secondary reason, it would have to be that she appeals to those who identify strongly with her level of intelligence.
also new at politics: So the people in your area aren't doing well. When is the last time they did do well? It's ironic that some areas do poorly when other most of the country is doing well and some areas do well regardless of how well the rest of the country is doing. I asked in another thread why the EL area can't attract companies that produce jobs that pay well. No one gave an answer. I think that one answer is the attitude that is prevalent in the area that companies are the enemy and must be punished. I grew up in EL and discovered my feet weren't nailed to the ground. Since then, I have lived in areas where the locals take responsibility for their own well being instead of blaming the president. In the 40's. Huntsville, AL was smaller than EL. The population is now estimated at over 160K. Instead of sitting around bitching about how tough things are, do something about the hand you were dealt. Unless you are physically or mentally challenged, your success or lack of it is based on decisions you have made.
Sarah Palin is an idiot? The last time I checked, she was the Governor of the State of Alaska. That's an aweful lot more inmpressive title than yours, a professeur at a little podunk university in East Liverpool, Ohio. She may not be qualified to be the Vice President but that dosen't make her an idiot, just inexperienced. The same could be said for the large majority of us older folks at one time.
Sorry, good try. You can insult me and our university all you want, but that doesn't change the simple fact that Sarah Palin is an idiot. George Bush became the president of the United States, and I can guarantee you that he couldn't get a job at Kent State East Liverpool. Why? I'll let you fill in that blank, and I do mean blank.
Bill--
You shouldn't get the idea that your hometown is a lost cause. There are plenty of people around here with good jobs who lead challenging, interesting lives. There are also a lot of whiners who think that the world owes them something.
The fact is for decades people in this area could count on growing up with no education and no skills and still expect to get a decent job in manufacturing and industry. These days, you have to do more than show up. Those who don't understand that, those who sit at home, drink beer, and watch TV thinking they deserve a high-wage job just for being alive--well, there is little hope for them.
We have more than our share of people who have never learned that hard work and success go hand in hand, but I don't think that's the norm. Again, most people around here have jobs, and many have good jobs. Still, there are a lot of people who want to whine. I suggest paying no attention to them. I don't.
I meant no insult, I'm just pointing out that here is a women you went from no where to become the Governor of Alaska. You can argue that Bush's success is because of his family ties, but not Palin's. She has put togeather a pretty impressive career to this point, and who knows, maybe someday she will be president. Hopefully not for a few years as even I don't think she's ready yet, but she's not an idiot. Did she struggle through a couple of interviews? Yes, but this is all new to her too. Remember, even an experienced politician like Biden can make a bonehead statement like the one about Roosevelt and the depression. But of course that little video didn't make your site.
I won't argue that Palin has been successful; her success was never my point. History shows repeatedly that successful politicians needn't be intelligent or informed. Ohio, a state with 10 million people, had Bob Taft for its governor. All it takes to be a successful politician is to get elected. I suppose that's a skill in itself, but that's as far as it goes.
Matt,
I would argue that being an educator is one of the easiest professions to hold without being intelligent. Between obtaining tenure and/or belonging to a union, there are very few ways a teacher can be dismissed.
There are plenty of great teachers out there, but many have unlimited protection and can't be let go for not performing. We all know the ones I am talking about. I can't think of one teacher that has ever been dismissed for their performance.
Again, I fully support educators, but there should be more accountability and we should get rid of the bad ones.
To change up for a minute... what is rule 16 and why are all the so called "law officers" up in arms about it? Is it going to make them have to act more honorably or morally? I googled it and couldn't find shat about it except the artical in the Evening PU. Which just eluded it is a bad bad thing, but nothing about what it is. Wouldn't want us to make up our own minds would they?
Do you folks realize the ratio of men to women in Alaska. The moosehunter probably put on that ditsy act and got herself elected from her fake charm, just like that charm has seduced some of you people on this board. It was a fluke she got elected in Alaska, and if you read any other news or blogs besides this site, you'd see that her ratings in Alaska have been dropping sharply since the election, she's under state investigation and the Alaskans are seeing that they made a mistake choosing a personality over substance.
Matt maybe you should run for public office,it would seem to ,e that you know an awfully lot about how to win!! That is what real people do when they feel that they can do a better job that the current leaders!! Come on Matt show the world that real intelligence does atill exist in the small world of Columbiana county.
Fight the good fight
Lies and deception are substituted for truth and honesty......what do you think has been going on for the past 8 years. You must be inept as you describe if you think you have been told the truth and not deceived for the past 8 years.
And this new maverick looks like he's ready for the glue factory. And I'm not wasting typing strokes on Palin.
Get real. Change is coming.
As for Rule 16 that is being questioned, there is already a law in place that says the prosecution (Law Enforcement) must FULLY DISCLOSE all of the evidence in every case to the Defense. They can't hold anything back. Maybe they haven't been complying with this fully??? The new rule appears to be concerned with Full Disclosure in Criminal Cases.
Here is the location about Rule 16. It appears that Ohio has not been forthright about presenting their evidence to the defense as required in most states. Most courts require full disclosure before trial. That is what preliminary hearings are all about, for Full Disclosure!!

Seems like it's time to correct the system and enter the 21st century.
Wikipedia defines Idiot as ""layman, person lacking professional skill", "person so mentally deficient as to be incapable of ordinary reasoning”. I think this refers more to Biden than is does Palin, but that’s just my opinion. What this word does describe is the voters in this area. The voters in this area are the most mentally deficient people I have ever seen. They continue to bitch and moan about high taxes, unemployment, gas prices etc. and then vote the same people in. Charlie Wilson just voted twice for the greatest robbery of our time and yet he will win easily this November. We can’t even elect someone that lives in our own district to be our representive in congress. Then there is Charlie’s son Jason. He got the job because of his father; he’s the one that got the signatures from people outside the district to get his father on the ballot. He has yet to do one thing for this area, yet he will win re-election. Has anyone ever talked to this guy? It blows my mind that he even has the chance to win. Then there is Linda Bolon. Another do nothing politician. Can someone name one thing she has done for this area?
How about the local school board. I think that just speaks for itself. When it comes to voting, East Liverpool has the track record of having the most idiotic voters in the United States.
According to the MOJO this morning, prosecutors don't seem to be fully disclosing everything that they should. This leads to sloppy police work, and the possibility of wrongful convictions of innocent people because the defense investigators don't have the information to check it out or discredit it. This is not about "confidential informants" because in most states, you still have to produce an informant at a trial if you don't get a plea. The reason for full disclosure is to protect the public from false arrest and prosecution and to demand from law enforcement cases that are properly prepared and that can stand on their own merit. It helps to eliminate sloppy police work and investigations and your cases should be able to stand scrutiny from all sides, or you don't have a good case. Most states have full disclosure laws. I wasn't aware that Ohio was behind the times.
Found it 4 me--
I cannot allow the republication of an entire story from the Vindicatory here. Please repost your comment with a link to the story. Sorry.
Matt I see the school is tearing up the alley and sidewalk between the U club and parking lot. That is a good source of old bricks for restoring 4th st.
Did anyone notice that Biden looked at the moderator when he was talking, but Palin looked DIRECTLY at the American people?
She said on one occasion that she was glad that the debate was live and not edited so that she could talk directly to the American people about things they care about (and not be edited so that her words would be twisted around).
I like this lady...she is extremely intelligent and confident and doesn't take any s*&t from anybody.
I guarantee you, if Obama gets elected, you will see leadership and handouts to those who don't want to work worse than Jimmy Carter. He will lead us down the road to socialism.
Native--
Wow, you're really stretching it with Sarah Palin. Admit it, your man chose a pretty girl instead of someone of substance for his running mate. I guess you have to try to make the best of it. You have no choice now. The best you can tell us is that she looked at the camera. That's impressive.
Native, she looked at the camera because her training is in television journalism, and she knows how to find the camera and hone in on it. That makes her qualified to be president if McCain kicks off? Did you bother to listen to her "answers" while you were gazing into her pretty brown eyes? It didn't bother you that she was quoting back memorized points that didn't even make sense in comparison to the questions Gwen Ifill was asking her? Oh, no, because she was "looking at the American public."
M,
Sigh...well, I just guess you are a poor judge of character. Perhaps you have a limp fish handshake and don't look people in the eye when you are talking to them. Obviously you think neither of those qualities in a person matter much.
Most of all, I'll bet you think that a "community organizer" for ACORN peddling bad mortgage loans to unqualified minorities backed by Freddie and Fannie has more character than a man who served his country flying A-4's over Vietnam, got shot down and survived 5 years of HELL in the "Hanoi Hilton"...then went on to serve his country for another 30years in the Senate.
...And I'll bet you will vote for that "community agitator," Barack Hussein Obama, who has nothing more concrete on his resume than the fact he served in the Senate for barely two years, most of it running for president. He was absent so often that all he ever voted was "present" even though he wasn't!
...And I thought you were an edumacated college professor? Even my 79-year-old, high-school educated, stay-at-home raising us kids mom knows who is the better man!
Gosh darn it, there, Native. Hold the phone, Joe. Gee willikers! I hate to be the one to tell you this, but looking into a camera isn't the same as looking someone in the eye. Still, it's not relevant. You're stretching to say something positive about Sarah Palin, and you know it.
That McCain ran a failed mission and got captured by the enemy tells me nothing about his ability to be president. Nevertheless, he's at least capable of being president. The issue is Palin, and she is not competent. Even you realize that, or you'd have something of substance to say about her.
"It blows my mind that he even has the chance to win. Then there is Linda Bolon. Another do nothing politician. Can someone name one thing she has done for this area?"
She was instrumental in getting the concealed weapons law amended so that we don't have to worry about having to defend ourselves in court if WE defend ourselves in our home against an intruder and kill him/her.
That's a major change in my mind and shows a lot of common sense on her part.
Attention all McCain/Palin supporters: there will be a laying on of hands to protect you from witchcraft..Saturday night at the Diamond. This is a very historic event since the last time this was done was 1789. Please come with a clove of garlic around your neck to ward off any vampires that might be hanging around since it will be dark. We will also have a dunking stool in case anyone is accused of gossiping. This is great christian fellowship that everyone can enjoy...bring your kids because we will have plenty of stocks to put them in if they misbehave.
Just like a liberal college professor...gives a reply that is based on "moral relevance"...no black and white, only gray.
Where did you get the "failed mission" crap? I know, you never served and know NOTHING about the military...nor appreciate the fact that they keep your butt free 24/7 to write such bulls&*t.
Obama wouldn't make a pimple on McCain's ass. Obama has NO honor, NO courage, NO love for or commitment to this country.
I hope you and the rest of us don't find that out the hard way. The guy is a fraud and his history with some unsavory characters (Ayers, Wright, ACORN) is not something someone just made up...it'll be quite easy to impeach him fairly quickly when he starts working with our enemies to destroy us from within. And you're just gonna LOVE those big tax hikes on your professorial salary...especially when you see all your money being funnelled to those 'po crackheads in the East End!
BTW, your imitation of Palin falls as flat as SNL's. Nobody's laughing.
Hey "Witchfinder" lol...deny THIS:
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=S8QcpdUtxNQ&feature=related
Native--
Where did I get that failed mission crap? Uh, well ... unless getting captured was part of the strategy of McCain's mission, I'd say it failed.
Secondly, I serve my country every day of my life, but not in the military. I'm sorry, but I don't fall for your I'm-in-the-military-so-everyone-should-kiss-my-ass philosophy. Good luck to you, my friend, but you're no better than I.
Never said I was better than you...just more appreciative of our freedoms and those who shed blood to win them for us.
It wasn't a "failed mission"...just one cut short. Would you enlist in our military if called upon? Bet not. I'd go back in a millisecond...in the Marines if needed even though I was Navy, on carriers. I had the pleasure of training with the Marines for a year...got tremendous respect for them.
I wouldn't call being a professor "serving your country" as I don't think you are ever in much danger from those who wish our citizens ill will. Police serve our country. Firemen as well. They face danger inherent in their jobs. Your mission is serving the community in making your students more educated, good citizens who love their country. THAT you can be proud of. BTW, does Kent have the American flag in its classrooms like when we were in school?
Sadly, most college kids today live on daddy’s credit card, get drunk every weekend, and generally expect the world to provide goodies for them free of charge...no surprise they are for Obama in recent polls 2-1.
QUOTE: "I wouldn't call being a professor "serving your country" as I don't think you are ever in much danger from those who wish our citizens ill will."
May 4, 1970...enough said.
Any job can be hazardous.
QUOTE: "it'll be quite easy to impeach him fairly quickly when he starts working with our enemies to destroy us from within."
Sorry, Charlie, but I think Bush beat him to this...evidenced by the Iranians or whoever the hell they are buying up all our gas stations, convenient stores, etc., the Russians and Arabs or some such country buying our steel mills (Weirton and Wheeling-Pitt), the Mexicans taking our jobs here in this country and theirs, and China not only taking our jobs and factories but then sending food, toys, dog food and God-knows-what-else back over here to kill us.
One day, if something doesn't change, WE are going to be the THIRD WORLD country, living like those we have always pitied.
I don't think McCain (who is just too darned much like Bush, by golly, gosh oh gee) is going to effect that change.
I HOPE Obama will but even I have a lot of fear about him. But I just think he is the least of two evils and I do like Biden so hopefully he will be a good influence on his younger, less experienced "boss."
2 cents,
May 4, 1970? Are you kidding me? How can you compare 4 whining, pot-smoking, liberal cry-babies to our US military? You my friend are the reason so many Vietnam Vets have problems today.
"Whining, pot-smoking, liberal cry-babies"?
The level of stupidity on this site never ceases to amaze me. Even so, this sort of thing isn't what I was referring to.
Serving one's country doesn't require participation in death, destruction, and danger. Besides, it's typically the ex-military guy who never saw a minute of combat that insists on draping himself in the flag and demanding that we all call him a hero. The real heroes are either dead or silent. They don't need their asses kissed because by definition they acted selflessly to do what had to be done.
It's also completely inappropriate for military people to belittle those who chose other career paths--that is, the vast majority of the American people. I'm old enough to have signed up the draft near the end of the Vietnam War, and I'm not ashamed that my number didn't come up.
These days, military service is a job that people seek. That you got the job you applied for doesn't make you a hero.
The military person who would refer to any American civilian as a "whining, pot-smoking, liberal cry-baby" is a disgrace to the flag, not a defender.
I'm probably signing a death warrant here, but wouldn't rationale dictate that those who enter the military at this juncture are just as guilty and wrong as the Commander and Chief? I mean, they weren't drafted against their will like in the Vietnam Conflict. It seems to me that if you have joined the military post-911, you support the campaign. And yet everyone is afraid to condemn a soldier.
And to elonativeinwva...jesus, you are a freak of nature. i don't even know where to begin. if you support sarah palin (the gob of GOP clay taking shape before your very eyes), then you're a goon.
Jeff M and M I've never been so insulted in all my life. A strong military makes a strong nation. I thank god everyday that there are men and women serving this great country of ours. A failed mission happens when things are in your control, McCain being shot down was not a failed mission. I dare you Matt to get out of your classroom and visit a Veterans Hospital. Tell the men and women there that they're not heroes, that because their Humvee rolled over an improvised explosive device that they didn't do their job that their mission failed. Tell their parents that their service isn't honorable because their mission failed. When people blame the military as Jeff M has it's no wonder this nation will fail. It's funny that people say they want a concealed carry law to protect their property but they don't want a military to protect our homeland, how thoughtless. My uncles joined the military after Pearl Harbor was attacked. They thought it was their duty to protect our homeland, were they just as guilty Jeff M, because they weren't drafted. I've never seen anyone as disrespectful to the military as Jeff M and Matt.
Gee, I guess "Jeff M" can only hurl personal insults...not intelligent enough to say anything with any substance!
Jeff M is just a pussy who was too scared to join the military.
Actually, I tried for The Navy, but I'm a homo. I like red sofas. But seriously, I nearly got into The Navy in 2002, had a good working relationship with the Calcutta officer, but I came to my senses. I woke up one evening and thought, I will not die for this President. And don't give me no shit about I'm a whimp or a pussy or that I wouldn't die for my country --- I would die for this country, but only for a good damn reason. And me no die to protect peoples' right to consume another country's resource.
and, wow, the rewards and benefits a soldier gets for defending his/her country --- we are beyond compare! it never ceases to amaze me how simple proud americans go off to fight and protect our country against the mighty brown nations of the world and, when they return, get substandard treatement, have their benefits slashed, have to fight for a damn bandaide, whatever. Even when they are fighting the war, they aren't given the best tools and/or weapons to defend themselves. My god, i did a story once about a group of lisbon folk who had to have a fund drive to raise money to buy one of the women's 17-year son and his platoon batons because, well, the military wouldn't. now, why the hell would any rational human being put their life on the line for a system, a machine, that disrespects them in that way? you want me to respect this country, then the country should act in a way that deserves its people's support, their lives, their respect.
Jeff M is probably just a little hippie boy who still wears his hair long and thinks it's cool.
He is probably also a "teacher" who was brainwashed by liberal professors to hate the military.
Poor Jeffy. Somebody oughta kick his ass.
big bad ass
yeah, i wear my hair long. i'm a hippy. someone needs to kick my ass. maybe you could kick my ass. come on, baby. email me. let's meet next time i'm home.
Jeff M, you don't make any sense. In one response you say that the military is guilty because they joined after 2001, then you say that you almost joined in 2002. You then say you don't agree with the military because we get sub standard treatment. We don't pick our leaders but we do promise and defend the Constitution of the United States. You can make all the excuses about how you don't like this president or you don't like the treatment we receive but you really showed yourself and true colors about the military when you said we should all be just as guilty as the President. I've served since 1980 there have been a lot of conflicts that we don't agree with but we serve to protect our nation, not because we like this President better than any other. It's more than the President that sends us into war, and it's more than the President who gives us our benefits. But people like you that degrade our service are just as responsible for our mistreatment here and abroad. Travel down the road about sixty miles and visit Whiteman AFB and tell the men and women that are leaving this week for Iraq - that we're all crazy because we joined the military and we serve for the time being President Bush. You've insulted some of the best people this Nation has to offer to protect your freedom and now you want to whitewash it with Quote "you want me to respect this country, then the country should act in a way that deserves its people's support, their lives, their respect".
like i said, i nearly joined in 2002 and then i came to my senses. so your argument doesn't hold water. i'm sick of veterans using every excuse in the freaking world to excuse ridiculous, imperialistic aims. it's that simple. this country is fucked up. and i stick with my statement that i'll fight for a country that shows me respect --- even if it is simple as buying armor, buying humvees, batons, whatever. why are you and so many others so willing to give your life to a threat that some texan says is credible (a man who can't even put a sentence together?) my god, are you so imbued with war and agression that you forget and/or disregard common sense? i'm done with this fucking conversation. want to talk more, email me. you won't, though, john wayne. you never do.
i'm watching the debates right now, and if mccain calls me a friend again, he's most certainly lost a vote. patronizing geezer bastard rich sonofabitch!
Jeff M, if you don't like this country or they don't give you enough respect, move. Go live in France. I'm sure you can find alot of others who share your beliefs about this country, there.
Jeff M, don't you know that to be an American you have to praise everything the military does, and fall on the ground and kiss the feet of every GI that walks by? Don't you know that if you don't support war that you should live in some other country? Don't you know that if you don't wrap yourself in the flag and sing Yankee Doodle you are a snivelling liberal pussy? Don't you know that thou shalt not kill and love thy neighbor doesn't apply to Americans?
Jeff M has ZERO credibility and real anger management and other personality issues...I'll never read another one of his crappy featured stories in this blog.
Like I said, if I saw him and his lady together, I'd wink at her ...
Thanks, Breaker. I think. It's early morning as I read your statement, and you seem to be comprehending my wave. To Roger, wink at my lady all you want --- you can share in the nightmare that is woman. To Move, I would move, but the dollar has no value and my two kids live here. So there.
Jeff M, Like I said you are an idiot we can't pick our fights, we join to protect our homeland and freedoms. Arewe just supposed to leave the military because we don't like the current administrations policies? We are not zombies but when you join the Military you can't pick and choose what you want to do. Yeah lets just not have a military force that would really solve all our problems.
Breaker, you're as bad as Jeff M. Why are you blaming the military? Like I said do we have a choice. You have a choice for President and for members of Congress they are the ones who dictate what the Military does, not the Military men and women who join to protect our freedoms.
Freedom,
THANK YOU for your service to this great nation.
The civilians on this blog can whine all they want...I've been to 17 different countries during my Naval career, and NONE has the blessings and abundance we have. I got down and kissed that good 'ol American soil every time I got home.
God truly does bless America!
Semper Fi, brutha!!
ELO Native...thanks to you also. I don't understand how people blame the military member for the actions of the President or Congress. They act like we can just walk away. On the debate last night both candidates stated that a strong economy relies on a strong military. Yet we have a majority of members in Congress who have not served and people like Jeff M. and Breaker who blame all the problems on people serving their Country. The way Jeff M. sees it is if there is a riot in town and the police don't like the mayor then they don't have to respond. What a ridicolous notion. I'm thankful that there are young men and women willing to defend our Nation and like you I've been to some god-forsaken places in this World and am thankful everyday for the freedoms we do have, even to defend the free speech of the anti-military.
Jeff M
Thank you for once again proving what I said before. There are two kinds of people in this world. Those with class, and those like....You. And to all the veterans out there, I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your brave and selfless service to our country.
you're welcome
