The J.C. Thompson building

Top: A photo I took a few years back of the J.C. Thompson building on the "Diamond" in downtown East Liverpool. (Stewart)

Below: I've never heard anyone call it the "Diamond House," but this photo set made by some ghost hunters is interesting because of the many interior shots.

What a cool old building. It's a shame that, along with the (former) Laughlin mansion and Smith's bank building, more of these historic structures aren't preserved and utilized.
Matt, what's the scoop on the coal tunnel?

I've heard of such things in the old downtown buildings, and I think there's one in the Potters National Bank building. But I don't know much about the coal tunnels.

Can you imagine what the air must have been like in the 1890s in Liverpool? Hundreds of pottery kilns pouring smoke and soot into the air, and every home and business burning coal or wood.

WVthinker.......Then why don't you do something about it? Maybe a quaint bed and breakfast?

Matt, I don't think there were coal tunnels. Large coal bins were under the sidewalks of some of the buildings. I can see how someone might mistake them for a tunnel. The local coal is high in sulpher and when burned it has a rotten egg smell. I imagine E.L.in the 1890's was gritty and smelly.

Fred, my wife and I talked about what business to get into a few years ago, but a B&B isn't a good investment in the tri-state area. Newell had one fail and the Strugis House is-most likely-subsidized by the owners other successful business. That and two jobs keep me busy 6-7 days a week now.
You?

My great grandmother, Nellie Dawson, lived there in the 50's and died there in July of 1955. I spent a lot of time there and only remember it being a great place to watch parades. No ghosts were ever mentioned by any of the family. But I loved the place and the architecture was amazing!

great, more freaking orbs. unless the photographer suddenly starts eating glass shards or inserting railroad spikes into his/her ass, i simply won't believe in ghosts and spirit possession.
