Steelers are toast

By M. Stewart
Well, it looks like the 2011 Pittsburgh Steelers don't have what it takes to win a big game on the road against a quality opponent. Last night's 20-3 loss to the San Francisco 49ers wasn't even close. Pittsburgh's offense couldn't buy a touchdown, and SF moved the ball easily against an ineffective defense.

Given his four-turnover performance, Ben Roethlisberger shouldn't have played. Mike Tomlin's refusal to play backup quarterbacks when Ben is injured shows that he has no faith in Batch or Dixon, which is a serious problem.

Last night's loss pretty much assures that Pittsburgh will be on the road throughout the playoffs, and with the way this team plays on the road, I'd say the chance of another Super Bowl appearance is slim to none.

A little closer to home . . .

I see in the local newspaper that East Liverpool City Council is debating whether to give our deceased police chief a retroactive raise. Obviously there is something I'm missing. Anybody know what it is?

Ben is too stubborn and works against the "team" concept. What's tragic is that he thinks he does work for the team. They shouldn't have played him, and Tomlin should grow some balls --- especially when the refs blew too huge calls. His Zen approach irritates me at times.

That ORL for the 49ers, Smith, grew up in Raytown, Missouri, a mere five miles south of here. It's a dirty little town full of mean people. It explains his play.

I hope Steelers lose quickly in the playoffs in order to save me the heartache.

A pay raise to a dead guy? In ELO? You're missing what, Matt? You know how things work there.

There was something that was posted that he was to have the same salary as the fire chief, and there was a difference. It was in there a few weeks ago when he passed.

Matt,
Basically there was a data entry error in the Auditors Office that gave the police chief an extra 25 cents an hour since 2007. It was not discovered until the Deputy Auditor was calculating his retire buyout that is now due to his spouse. It adds up to approx. $2,900 I think. We feel it would be unfair to make the spouse pay this back. The "extra" money will not be calculated in the retirement buyout. Hope that clears it up some.

why wouldn't the "extra" he was paid be deducted from his buy out since that's money his spouse hasn't yet seen, so she won't miss it? that way there's no issue with someone getting something the other person didnt get
