In today's newspaper

by M. Stewart
Congratulations to Review managing editor Jim Mackey and publisher Tammie McIntosh. The East Liverpool newspaper took top honors in its class at the 2011 Associated Press Society of Ohio competition. I read The Review online every day and would feel lost without it. I only wish they would make me pay for it! Giving away news can't be good.

Speaking of The Review, I read in the paper this morning that city Councilman Ray Perorazio publicly questioned state Rep. Craig Newbold's bill designed specifically to get Columbiana County off the hook for the shady dealings of its agents. It's about time that city politicians speak out about the legal charades of the Buckeye Water District and the county commission. BWD owes the city money--a lot of money.

As mild as Perorazio's criticism was, it's a step in the right direction. East Liverpool politicians need to talk much more about this. Mayor Swoger and city councilmen should be at every BWD board meeting and every commissioners meeting demanding the $4.8 million these people owe the city. I guarantee you that if someone owed them $4.8 million, they'd be there. Why should they do any less as elected officials?

And why isn't state Rep. Newbold working on behalf of the city? Why isn't he helping East Liverpool get its money instead of running interference in Columbus for the county and the water district? Whom does he work for anyway?

It sure ain't us.

M,
Typical of all liberals, live off the the few people that PAY the Review to deliver their version of the Morning Journal. Consider us to be in the 99% that actually BUY a paper or be like Warren Buffet and throw the Review a few dollars every now and again. Oh thats right he is being sued by the IRS for not paying his taxes from the LAST TEN years. What a joke he is!!!

As far as the BWD and ELO Water department, No one really gives a crap, East Liverpool had it their way with the LGF monies until they had to pass legislation to stop the veto power of the largest subdivision. When that FREE money dried up, the politicans were sure that the world would end, but it seems like nothing has changed. What would East Liverpool do with 5 million dollars extra?

Subscriber--
I would subscribe to the online Review if it were for sale, but it isn't. That's the whole point. I have no interest in purchasing the print edition, sorry. I'm glad that you do, however. Thank you for subsidizing all liberals. Currently, I am a subscriber to the online editions of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the New York Times, and the Washington Post, and National Public Radio.

Also, I'm glad that you dislike East Liverpool so much--oh, and Warren Buffet, and those who support the validity of legal contracts, and the court system. Did I forget anyone?

As for what East Liverpool would do with $5 million, I suppose we'd find something.

I thought Newbold's bill was designed to do two things: protect the public from paying private debts and force entities such as BWD to pay up... even if it means bankruptcy. Isn't that what should happen? Hold BWD responsible for their debts.

Look at why the county is on the hook in the first place. BWD isn't exactly a private company.
